a week in Cabo.

a week in Cabo.

When your parents invite you for a free holiday to a sunny, beachy place, you take it. Especially if said destination has sun, sand and the sound of powerful waves crashing. This is my trip to Los Cabos in Mexico as the accompaniment to my parents to keep the sofa-bed warm and provide my restaurant recommendations using my ‘super high-tech’ sources (Instagram and Youtube).

1-week, mid-September.

Temperature: fry-an-egg-on-the-sand hot, rather dry.

Water: warm, but powerful waves so no swimming.

@sunshine, where all the freckles come to play, get loose with one another and give birth to even more freckles.

San Jose del Cabo.

My preferred end of the Cabo coast. A town where you can grab your self a commemorative fridge magnet, eat at a spot shared alongside national tourists while catching the town’s youths hanging out and skateboarding before heading home. A slower-paced, no beach club, town friendly for families, couples looking for a stroll, or friends’ trip to just enjoy each other’s company.

El Aguamala Cevicheria | Love seafood? This spot has every aquatic delicacy served up every way - raw, grilled, fried, you name it. Take your leftovers home (because there will be some) and stick it in a tortilla the next day.

Bacān at El Merkado | An indoor gourmet food market featuring foods from all over the world (sushi, pizza, pancakes). But the winner is Bacãn, a south-American grill serving the most perfectly marinated and seared steaks, pork loins and whatever he hasn’t already run out of by dinner.

Jardin Secreto | A tucked away locale for a stylish evening with friends, family or your s/o, Kind of outside, kind of inside, and serving up an array of delicious aperitifs and a Mexican-Mediterranean fusion dish list, this hidden spot was a delicious urban oasis.

other spots I didn’t get to try but am saving for next time:

Semillon

Restaurante El Matador

El Marinero Borracho

Flora Farms | A true highlight and memorable dining experience. Location? Stunning. Food? Savoured and devoured. Ambience? A mix of people having a lovely time with those they’ve chosen to share this moment with. Cannot recommend this place enough as the show-stopper of your trip.

just some images for you

Cabo San Lucas

Only spent half a day here so not a lot to report. A resort city with lot of mega bars, party club restaurant things, and a big shopping mall. At the end of the marina is a photogenic rock archway from the cliffs to the ocean. Lots of fishing and sightseeing boats to book and get out there :)

Tacos Gardenias | Turn that corner off the main road and turn the fourth corner and you’ll stumble this home-cooking taco joint on the side of the road. A family-run cheap and delicious spot for all things wrapped in palm-size tortillas.

Panazia | Didn’t get around to trying this spot but it’s on my list when I go back. A Mexican-Asian fusion restaurant with what looks like a nice interior, a decent rating and a yummy menu.

Mariscos Las Tres Islas | Was only able to pin this on my maps for my next trip into town, this neighbourhood seafood joint was giving the down-to-earth local vibes like Tacos Gardenias. Just my cup of tea - or plate of tortillas.
